Join W&M Sustainability to celebrate Earth Day 2017 this week. Weekday events focus on the environment, wellness, activism, community and business. Events will culminate on Earth Day (April 22) in the annual Earth Day Festival. W&M Sustainability has collaborated with Alma Mater Productions (AMP) and W&M Monarch and Milkweed Research to bring you Saturday’s theme, Monarchs and Music. Leave No Trace Awareness Workshop

Crim Dell Meadow, April 17, 12-3 p.m.

Join the Tribe Adventure Program for a Leave No Trace Awareness Workshop on the Crim Dell Meadow, April 17 from 12-3 p.m. If you enjoy spending time outside you can learn principles to reduce your impact on the natural world. These seven principles focus on people, lands, collaboration, and sustainability. Stop by to learn how to reduce your impact! This event sponsored by W&M Sustainability and W&M Campus Recreation. Free and open to the public.

Tuesday — Sustainability and Wellness

Guided Meditation

Crim Dell Meadow, April 18, 2-4p.m.

This will be a guided meditation walk and labyrinth program. Explore the intersection between mindfulness, wellness and sustainability while learning valuable meditation skills that you can practice throughout your day. Free and open to the public.

Yoga @ Matoaka

Matoaka Amphitheater, April 18, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Join W&M Sustainability and Campus Recreation an hour of yoga at the Matoaka Amphitheatre. Enjoy a free, fresh-air yoga session and a hands-on approach to understand the connection between sustainability and wellness. Please wear appropriate and comfortable clothing and bring your own yoga mats (or towel).

 

Wednesday — Sustainability and Activism

Letter Writing Event

Sadler Terrace, April 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Join W&M Sustainability and Amnesty International on the Sadler Terrace to contact your representatives and government organizations. We will have letters to sign, sample scripts to inspire your own letters and a phone bank. You are welcome to stop by quickly on your way to class. You do not need any prior experience to participate. All views welcome.

Environmental Justice Dialogue

Intergenerational Painting and Planting

Smoothie Bike

Blend your own smoothie via bicycle with AMP Sustainability and W&M Sustainability. This stationary contraption blends better than the magic bullet, looks cooler than a unicycle and rides better than a roller-coaster.

Catching the Sun Movie Screening

Integrated Science Center, room 1127, April 20, 7 p.m.

Join W&M Sustainability and VA SUN for a movie screening of “Catching the Sun” (and some snacks) by Shalini Kantayya. This film tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs and explores solutions to income inequality and climate change. Alumni Career Networking

Interested in a career in the sustainability field? Come learn how to eliminate pollution from W&M alumni from Washington, D.C. W&M Sustainability and the W&M Washington Center bring you the opportunity to network with alumni specializing in environmental science, policy and beyond. This networking session will allow students to hone their networking skills while making key contacts in the environmental field. A mingling session with refreshments will follow. Create a unique and sustainable craft: Make a t-shirt reusable bag while learning about some of our local sustainable businesses. Bring your own shirt or use one of the Tribe shirts available at the event.

Celebrate Earth Day with William & Mary! Cap off Earth Week at a family friendly festival. Enjoy the live music, butterfly tent, mini-talks with monarch butterfly expert Lincoln Brower, documentary screening, information fair, face-painting, W&M greenhouse tours, food and more! William & Mary President Taylor Reveley will read Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax” at 1 p.m. Free and open to the public. Free food and t-shirts with a W&M student ID.
