RAINN to host happy hour fundraiser in Northern Virginia
Alumni from William & Mary and the University of Mary Washington will host a happy hour fundraiser today for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN).
The RAINN Sexual Assault Prevention Happy Hour Fundraiser will be from 6-9 p.m. at Don Tito restaurant in Arlington, Va. RAINN is a national organization that raises awareness about sexual assault and provides services for victims. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1, with all proceeds going directly to RAINN, according to Liz Powell, the volunteer fundraiser for the group. Raffle prizes will include gift cards to local restaurants, bars and other services. There will be two speakers at the event.
According to RAINN, an American is sexually assaulted every 98 seconds. RAINN was created to help victims of sexual violence and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. The organization created the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800-656-HOPE), which operates in partnership with more than 1,000 local groups that provide services for survivors of sexual assault. By RAINN estimates, the hotline has assisted approximately 2.4 million people since its launch in 1994. All contributions from the happy hour fundraiser will help the organization continue offering these crucial services.
Wristbands will be given out at the door in exchange for a donation. For more information about the event, please contact Liz Powell at raisingrainn@gmail.com or (443) 783-8769.
