W&M Foundation welcomes four new trustees; five elected to emeritus status 

During its fall meeting on Oct. 17, the William & Mary Foundation Board of Trustees elected four new members — Lauren K. Jacobson ’07, Thomas “Tom” J. McInerney P ’07, Christopher “Chris” R. Neikirk ’88 and Janet McNulty Osborn ’85 — and recognized five trustees completing nine-year terms marked by distinguished service with emeritus status. 

“William & Mary is incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated leaders joining our Foundation board. Their professional expertise and devotion to the university strengthens our shared mission to advance William & Mary through philanthropy and partnership,” said Matthew T. Lambert ’99, chief executive officer of the William & Mary Foundation. “We are deeply grateful for those whose terms have concluded and who have left a lasting mark on this community.” 

The William & Mary Foundation’s mission is to advance the university’s highest aspirations by securing private support, guiding a multi-asset investment portfolio and offering strategic leadership. In this work, the Foundation propels the university toward national preeminence and helps shape a future worthy of its history. 

Incoming William & Mary Foundation Trustees 

Lauren Kloss Jacobson ’07 

Lauren Kloss Jacobson '07

Jacobson serves as chief investment officer of Hamilton College’s $1.5 billion endowment, where she oversees the investment team, asset allocation and manager selection. Previously, she was a managing director at Columbia Investment Management Company and a director at the Rockefeller Foundation, where she managed hedge fund investments within its $5 billion endowment. She began her career as a Goldman Sachs analyst. Jacobson earned her B.B.A. in finance from William & Mary, where she was a varsity track athlete. Jacobson lives in Rumson, New Jersey, with her family. 

Thomas J. McInerney P ’07

McInerney is president, chief executive officer and director of Genworth Financial, Inc. His career includes senior leadership roles at ING Group and Aetna, as well as advisory work with the Boston Consulting Group. McInerney serves as vice chair of United Way Worldwide and is a member of The Conference Board, the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Foundation Board and the Global Research Institute advisory board at William & Mary. He is also a member of the American Council of Life Insurers. A graduate of Colgate University and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, Tom is the father of three daughters, including Erin McInerney Smith ’07. Tom and his wife, Jessica, reside in Henrico, Virginia. 

Christopher R. Neikirk ’88

Christopher R. Neikirk '88

Neikirk recently retired as vice president and treasurer of Norfolk Southern Corporation, concluding a 31-year career that included leadership roles in marketing, real estate, chief of staff, finance and investments. He also serves as trustee of the National Railroad Retirement Investment Trust and board member of the Elizabeth River Project. A co-founder of Smartmouth Brewing Company, Neikirk holds an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. in economics from William & Mary. He and his wife, Chris, live in Virginia Beach and have two sons. 

Janet McNulty Osborn ’85

Janet McNulty Osborn '85

Osborn is a senior consultant with Aon Corporation, a global human resources firm, where she leads some of the company’s largest client relationships. She began her career in financial services at Sallie Mae and earned her CFA designation in 1993. A member of the Society of 1918, Osborn has served on the boards of the Muscarelle Museum of Art and the W&M Alumni Association. She currently holds leadership roles with the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington and the Girl Scouts Council of the Nation’s Capital. She has her B.A. in economics from William & Mary and an M.A. in American history from George Mason University. Osborn lives in Northern Virginia and has two adult children. 

 

Retiring William & Mary Foundation Trustees 

The below retiring trustees steered the William & Mary Foundation through both challenges and celebrations throughout their tenure on the board. These five steadfast volunteers saw the university through the completion of the For the Bold campaign, a pandemic and the All In campaign, and also completed a legal restructuring of the William & Mary Foundation and investment management company.  

Andrew W. Horrocks ’87 

Throughout nine years of dedicated service on the William & Mary Foundation Board of Trustees, Horrocks has been a thoughtful steward of the university’s long-term financial strength. As chief executive officer of UP National Holdings, a real estate investment management company, Horrocks brought deep expertise in capital markets, governance and strategic growth to the Foundation’s work. His insight proved instrumental in shaping investment and planning discussions that advanced William & Mary’s philanthropic mission. Beyond his alma mater, Horrocks lends his leadership to organizations focused on expanding educational access and improving health care outcomes. His steady commitment, strategic perspective and generous spirit have strengthened the Foundation and the university it serves. 

David N. Kelley ’81 

With a distinguished legal career spanning public service and private practice, Kelley brought exceptional judgment and integrity to the Foundation Board. As a trustee since 2016, he has drawn on his experience as former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and partner at O’Melveny & Myers LLP to guide deliberations on governance, risk and accountability. Kelley’s keen understanding of law and leadership enriched the board’s approach to oversight and decision-making during a period of significant strategic progress. A past member of the William & Mary Alumni Association Board and Campaign Steering Committee, he continues to exemplify the civic-minded service that defines the William & Mary community. 

Jill Marie Lord ’94 

A respected scholar and advocate for the arts, Lord has blended her professional expertise with her passion for William & Mary’s mission. An art and architectural historian and adjunct professor at Sweet Briar College, she has long supported the university’s cultural programs and served as chair of the Muscarelle Museum of Art Foundation Board. During her tenure on the Foundation Board, Lord championed initiatives that elevated the humanities and deepened opportunities for student research and creative inquiry. Her steadfast commitment to excellence and the liberal arts reflects the best of William & Mary’s academic tradition and enduring spirit of curiosity. 

Michael C. Sapnar ’88, P ’20 

Sapnar’s tenure on the Foundation Board has been marked by both strategic vision and personal devotion to his alma mater. A global leader in the insurance and reinsurance industries, Sapnar serves as head of Longtail Re and global head of insurance solutions at NYDIG. He previously spent nearly a decade as president and CEO of Transatlantic Reinsurance. His financial acumen and leadership helped guide the Foundation through important discussions of sustainability and investment strategy. A proud alumnus and William & Mary parent, Sapnar has championed innovation, academic opportunity and philanthropy that empower future generations of students. 

Raelene Canuel Wagoner ’87, P ’20 

Known for her collaborative leadership and dedication to student success, Wagoner has been a dynamic force on the Foundation Board since 2016. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience as a human resources executive in the technology sector — most recently as vice president of talent management at Unison — she has helped shape initiatives that strengthen the student experience and alumni engagement. Wagoner’s volunteerism and philanthropy reflect her deep belief in education’s transformative power. A committed alumna and parent, she has exemplified William & Mary’s values of excellence, inclusion and service throughout her tenure on the board and beyond.
