Virginia Uncorked

"Truly, W&M alumni appreciate good whisky." And Dave Cuttino, of Reservoir Distillery in Richmond, Va., knows good whisky.

On the Friday evening of Homecoming, Oct. 14, the big tent in the Sunken Garden will host Virginia Uncorked, our second annual tasting event. Whether your libation of choice is whisky, beer or a fine Merlot, Virginia Uncorked is sure to offer both familiar favorites and a chance to explore something new. Sample drinks from 12 of Virginia's best breweries, wineries and distilleries, many of which are owned and operated by W&M alumni.

The ticket price of just $25 ($15 for Young Guarde) offers your choice of tastings throughout the evening. Pay-as-you-go food trucks will be on hand with a wide variety of food to suit appetites both big and small.

And the good whisky? That's Reservoir's award-winning bourbon, which was a huge favorite at last year's event. Reservoir will be back this year with not only bourbon, but also their double gold medal-winning wheat and rye whiskies.

For Robby Willey '05, co-owner of Williamsburg's Virginia Beer Co., "being able to share our beer with the W&M community has been a dream come true." Newly opened in March, Virginia Beer Co. will offer samples of their year-round flagship beers, as well as one of their experimental small-batch beers, a New England IPA aptly named Green and Gold. "There will only be a few kegs available so the timing will make it a fun way to share a rare beer with the W&M community in honor of Homecoming," says Willey.

While the full lineup is still being confirmed, other breweries will include Alewerks, Brass Cannon Brewing, Center of the Universe Brewing Company, Commonwealth Brewing Company, Pleasure House Brewing and Smartmouth Brewing Company.

Several wineries will offer tastings, including local favorite Williamsburg Winery, with a selection of their best wines.

Join us under the stars for a great evening of food, drink, music and - most importantly - the chance to make some new memories with your W&M family.
